The car has become more modern than before. But when it comes to trucks, our trucks are always same before 2000 and they are the same even today in 2025. So the question is Why are Indian trucks so old?
Meaning, there is no major difference even after nearly twenty years. Even today, if you look at the roads, you will find these trucks only. However, truck manufacturing companies like Tata, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland and Eicher have also launched their modern and new trucks.
But still we see this truck on the roads. Why is this so? The reason behind this is quite interesting. Which we will know today in this article.
Why are Indian trucks so old in 2025?
So let’s start again. So the first reason is low profit and high expenses. The main job of a truck is to deliver goods from one place to another and the owner has to book his profit in the money that comes from this.
But this profit is not easily available in India. For example, if you go to buy a car on EMI, you have to pay 7 to 9 percent interest.
But when it comes to trucks, the interest on a truck is 9 to 17 percent which is quite high. Now according to this, if you buy a truck, then your focus is on more profit because you have to repay the loan as well.
But apart from the EMI, there are still many hidden charges. Like toll tax money, if we meet any such person on the road then the expenses of his family, and the cost of damage caused to the trucks due to such roads.
Meaning, after all this, the profit that was left is negligible. Due to which truck drivers are not able to buy trucks with new technology.

Bad roads and traffic
The second reason is our bad roads and traffic. If you have even a little interest in trucks, you must have seen countries like Canada that have such big long nose trucks.
The truck drivers here cover a thousand plus kilometers even after working for only eight hours. But this is not possible in our India. The reason for this is the bad roads and traffic here.
Because even if you work for fifteen hours here, you will be able to cover a maximum of four hundred to five hundred kilometers.
Because of these bad roads and traffic, if we have big and modern trucks like those in Canada, they will not be able to enter the city. That is why Indian truck drivers prefer these small and old trucks.
Customized Truck Culture
Now the third main reason is the customized truck culture. If you have noticed, in India, some trucks that come from the factory have only the engine and chassis, not the upper body.
The truck drivers themselves get these bodies made from outside, which is cheaper for them and they can get it made as per their need.
That is why most truck drivers get their trucks made in the old style which everyone likes. Now you will say that truck companies have the power to make good trucks, who is stopping them from doing so? So the reason for this is also the truck drivers themselves.
The company has also made good trucks like Mahindra Baleno series or Tata’s Prima. These trucks look modern and good but still very few people prefer them because these trucks are much more expensive than normal trucks and they cannot customize them according to their needs.
That is why the company also does not spend money on upgrading the trucks. It does some research and development on these old trucks so that it can pass the new emission norms.
Like mileage or engine etc. Why should the company spend money on modern trucks when there is no demand for them in the market? This is the reason why we still see these old trucks on the roads.
Conclusion:
However, this scenario may change in the coming time because our government is also doing something good for truck drivers. But will we get to see good and new models of trucks on Indian roads in the coming days? What is your opinion? Tell us in the comments.
