Many people have a question in there mind that Why Indian Police Use Mahindra Bolero? If we talk about police cars in India, Delhi NCR Police has Toyota Innova. Madhya Pradesh Police has Tata Safari and Kerala Police has Force Gurkha. Punjab Police also uses cars like Toyota Hilux.
But still you will find one vehicle common in all these states, whose name is Mahindra Bolero. You will find Mahindra Bolero in the police convoy of every state. Even if the police has a better car than Bolero.
But brother, what did the police see in the Bolero that they use this despite having more powerful and better cars than this. So, we will decode this reason further in this article . Read and understand this article carefully.
How did Bolero enter the Indian Police?
So let’s start from the beginning. Let’s see how Bolero entered the Indian Police. So Bolero’s history started in the year 2000, when Mahindra launched the first generation of Bolero in India.
This car was a replacement for Mahindra’s Armada. Mahindra’s reason behind launching this was to compete with Tata Sumo. Because before Bolero, Tata Sumo and Armada were rival cars.
Because Tata Sumo was better, Armada could not compete with it. People would leave Armada and buy Tata Sumo. So Mahindra found a solution to this problem, which was Bolero.
Bolero’s design is right compared to other cars
Bolero came with a better design in comparison to Sumo. Also, Mahindra gave it a bigger 2.5 liter diesel engine, which produced 75 horsepower.
Mahindra also kept the price of Mahindra Bolero at Rs. 4.99 lakh ex-showroom, due to which people liked Bolero a lot. Within just five years of its launch, Bolero became the best selling SUV in India. Bolero alone captured 20 percent market share.
Seeing the great success of Bolero, Mahindra again gave it its first update in 2007, in which some cosmetic changes were made in the looks like twinned bumper, redesigned headlamp and tail light etc. Along with this, a new graphic was also added on its bonnet and doors for a fresh look.
Although this upgrade was very small for Mahindra Bolero at that time, it still did not affect the sales of Mahindra Bolero . It was still the top selling SUV in the segment. Mahindra Bolero had already overtaken its rival Sumo, but Bolero was giving tough competition to the new rivals as well.

Powerful engine is also a reason
After the success of this update, Mahindra again launched the most powerful Bolero in 2009, which was named Bolero Storm. This Bolero was the most powerful Bolero till date because its two point five liter CRDe diesel engine was producing 97 horsepower.
And this much power is not available even in the Bolero of 2024, that is why this is the most powerful Bolero ever. Due to good power, its pick up was very strong. The front suspension was also upgraded so that this vehicle performs well even on rough and tough terrain.
However, Mahindra discontinued the Bolero Storm in 2011, the reason for which was emission norms. Along with this, Mahindra launched the third generation of Mahindra Bolero in 2011.
And this time too, there is not much change in Bolero, apart from some minor cosmetic changes. But yes, this time some extra premium features have also been added.
Such as digital instrument cluster and hybrid technology etc. The dashboard design in its interior was also new and premium. Under the wood, it had a new AM 2 DI CR engine, which came with better fuel efficiency and acceleration than before.
Now Bolero was quite popular in the commercial segment as well. Hence Mahindra then launched the pickup version of Bolero, which was named Bolero Camper. Mahindra launched this pickup version in both single cabin and double cabin options.
Along with this, Mahindra also launched non AC and AC options. This pickup version of Bolero also proved to be a hit in the commercial segment.
Mahindra consistently delivered better cars
After this, in 2016, Mahindra introduced Bolero Power Plus, in which Mahindra gave the old new one point five liter AM Hawk diesel engine. This engine gave it 70 horsepower and one ninety five Nm torque.
Although this new engine was smaller than the old 2.5 liter engine, it was still more powerful and fuel efficient than the old engine. And then in 2019 when BS VI norms were implemented, Mahindra made the Bolero BS VI compatible and relaunched it after giving an update.
Today, Bolero is the first choice of people in its segment even after twenty-five years. Mahindra has not made any major changes in the first gen Bolero and the current Bolero and neither does Bolero come with any premium features. But still it is the king of the segment, because people like its simple city and raw power.
Premium features like sunroof or touch screen are not demanded by the customers in Bolero. They just want a sturdy, strong and a reliable car and Bolero is the best for them in all these.
Why Indian Police Use Mahindra Bolero?
Well, now let’s talk about how Bolero became the police’s favorite? So look, Bolero fulfills every need of the police just like the common man.
Be it spacious interiors or rough and tough build quality or a reliable engine with good power, the Bolero falls short in comparison to other 7 seater SUVs.
Right now the price of Bolero is around 9.8 lakhs ex-showroom and Boro is an Indian SUV, so why should the police use a car of any foreign brand. They are getting all the things according to their need in Boro and that too at a lower price than other cars. So Bolero is the only option for them, and it is also an Indian company, so even today it is the first choice of the police.
Is Mahindra Bolero batter then other cars?
Well, the Mahindra Bolero is affordable car it is also known as a powerful car, and the Mahindra Bolero is comes at low price also its maintaining cost is too low so this is the region that many people love this car in India.
